Gordon Murray has designed some of the fastest cars in the world: the McLaren Formula 1 and McLaren F1 Supercar. But has also made one of the smallest. The T.25 is four feet wide and eight feet long, meaning you could fit three of them parked nose-to-curb in a single parking space (and drive two-abreast in normal traffic lanes). And according to Autopia, it’s “designed around a safety cell,” which is used in race cars, so it will be remarkably safe alongside far larger standard cars and trucks (though with it’s “glacial acceleration,” it’s more of a city car than a freeway car. With a hinged front frame that lifts up in place of traditional doors (so as not to hit nearby vehicles, etc.), the sleek little micro-car seats three people, with the driver taking front and center, no passenger seat, and a back seat built for two. Designed around a safety cell, the car is exceptionally strong despite its size—which is so small three T.25s can fit in one parking spot, a major benefit to urban driving. The manufacturer to whom Murray sold the rights expects the price tag will be $9,000. Would you drive (or buy) it? I def would looks sweet as hell to drive.
Wax Tailor feat. Charlie Winston “I own you” also worth viewing is the “making of” video which is always sweet to see what really goes behind the scenes and how they actually do the amazing work. By SoLab the same people behind “Divisive”.
“I remember long sublime walks in the Welsh mountains with my father, when suddenly a fighter plane would rip through the sky, and shatter everything. It was so exciting, loud and overwhelming; it would literally take our breath away. The sound would arrive from nowhere, all you would see was a shadow and then the plane was gone.
At the time harrier jump jets were at the cutting edge of technology but to me they were like dinosaurs, prehistoric, from a time before words.” -Fiona Banner
Olars is an electronic interactive toy inspired by Karl Sims’ evolved virtual creatures. Having thousands of varieties in movement and behaviour by attaching different geometrical limbs, modifying the angle of these, twisting the body itself, and by adjusting the deflection of the motorised joints, results in both familiar and strange motion patterns.
Been around for awhile now but a classic to watch Lakai Fully Flared Intro video; skateboards and explosions what more do you want. (Start on marker 00:49 secs)

By connecting people to the nature around them, even in an urban environment, The Intertwine improves the daily lifestyle of Portland citizens. A modular “patchwork” design spans easily from web and print to signage applications. Iconic illustrations speak to the natural diversity The Intertwine offers and accessible, playful language evokes the simple pleasure of being outdoors. Beautifully illustrated by Mette Hornung Rankin.
Inspired by mythology and Renaissance art, artist Baptiste Debombourg created these meticulous murals using 35,000 staples reminds me a lot of the illustration technique of stippling. Concept from the artiist: “The protagonist Icarus, the Mannerism of the Renaissance and the symbol of sublime power Air Force One -the plane of the American President- are the main points in this work. The combination of pathos, beauty and unnatural movement of Italian Mannerists concealing some aggression. Is it why this “Superman” flies straight down towards the earth? Here it’s used the tacker as a material and media, which plays with the contemporary agression and the profanized utility of the everyday life.”
A leaf of light, thin as a page of a book, to enlighten rooms and tents, maps and books. Wireless, rechargeable, autonomous. With adjustable brightness, private or shared light, for those who read and travel everywhere. Nice idea.
Created for ease of movement, urban transportation, and individual appeal, PUMA, Biomega and KiBiSi has collaborated to produce the next evolution in commuter bikes. Smart European design and commuter technology collide with urban American style – and culminate in a completely new Trans-Atlantic bike paradigm. PUMA pared down its bikes to their essentials and constructed a new bike line with innovative and thoughtful details that meet the needs of a unique consumer set. This PUMA Bike line is designed for urban mobility and finds innovative solutions for the everyday annoyances that come from maneuvering bikes through urban obstacles. The collection redefines and reinvigorates the city ride. Each bike features colors inspired by island culture in the Atlantic – symbolizing this new Trans-Atlantic approach and balancing PUMA’s European heritage with American popular culture. By pulling together the best parts of practical, continental city and folding bikes, BMXs, American cruisers, and fixies, these PUMA Bikes create a whole new urban typology. One that stands out in the crowd. And knows how to make its own way. My favourite def has to be the 80′s bmx inspired version love the bold colours.
Johnny Kelly has directed a new film to promote YouTube Play – a collaborative project between YouTube and the Guggenheim Foundation that seeks to showcase the very best creative videos from around the world… “The brief was to create something that would reference the variety of different worlds created by youtube users,” explains Kelly, “and also drum up some excitement. With all these different worlds in the animation, I wanted to get across that idea of clicking on something without knowing exactly what you are going to see – just like on YouTube. It could be the greatest thing you’ve seen in your life, or it could be a sneezing panda – or one and the same! love it!
Just watched Iron Man 2 on the weekend and wow the interfaces that was conceived for the movie are brilliant, and def deserves to take the mantle away from Minority Report as the most cutting-edge interface design concepts seen on the big screen beautiful more images here. “Iron Man 2 envisions the future of computing interfaces. What makes the interface look most attractive is how physically involved Stark becomes in design. With the power of voice and gesture combined, Stark is able to give small, quiet commands when contemplative, and become more expansive and hands-on when excited. The vision of computing device that’s able to adapt so smoothly to the use’s mood and circumstances is compelling to sat the least.” (from MIT Technology Review)

Nice take on the traditional tourism campaigns, love the light hearted feel of the whole thing from the music to the introduction of the character. Inspired by Iceland fantastic.
Pâté Chinois a creative modular system that uses layering and a mash-up of materials for a well-executed and exciting assortment of furniture. Happy furniture, less rigor and more flexibility. A shelving unit that evolves according to our frame of mind, a chair that transforms itself each season, a sofa that can take endless configurations and looks. In short, furniture that grows and change with time! Lovely retake from the classic Vistoe system. From montreal-based designers Thien and My Ta Trung’s
Nice concept tying the original launch date of the shoe to the technology that was available at the time. The V-Series range was originally released by Nike in the 1980’s as a ‘technologically advanced running shoe’. Spin, was invited by the sportswear giant to make ‘appropriate promotional materials to support its re-release’. Rather than produce the traditional brochure, Spin produced a dynamic piece of communication that was placed in stores and retail outlets, to be picked up the public. ‘The folding continuos data paper and the ASCII art translations/illustrations of the shoes were used to reflect the technology of the era when the shoes were originally released.’ Nicely done.
Interesting installations by Kjell Varvin “Frequent manipulations of insignificant objects in a naked corner of my studio for digital documentation and publication on the internet as temporary installations on the context of art”. The composition of the objects is beautifully presented/stacked/layed out.
Marc Newson one of may fav aussie industrial designers, tho their are not that many out there has recently designed a new speedboat for the iconic Italian brand Riva, a high-tech take on nautical design. The Aquariva—first created in 2001—receives an innovative yet simplified makeover, with phenolic composite (an extremely durable wood-like laminate) covering the deck area instead of traditional mahogany and anodized aluminum used in place of stainless steel for an overall sleeker aesthetic. Heralding the classic glamor of the Aquariva’s predecessor, the Aquarama, Newson infused identifiable Riva attributes while keeping within his own signature style. A streamlined instrument panel, a wrap-around laminated glass windshield, separated driver and passenger seats, handles and hooks that disappear when not in use, a re-imagined stern and state-of-the-art transmission all bring the boat to new standards without compromising its history as an opulent pleasure vessel.
A limited edition of 22, Newson’s Aquariva will debut in September 2010 and will be available worldwide through NYC’s Gagosian Gallery. Wonder if it will come with a free ikepod? or a matching ford 021C hmmm.
